"Immigrants in our land"

"Immigrants in our own land" by Jimmy Santiago Baca is honestly one of the realest poems I've heard, this poem is petty moving. I say this because it brings out the truth of how immigrants are treated and while hearing it I felt a little something. The theme of the poem is that we sometimes expect too much, but life won't give you what you expected. I would say that this is the theme because in the poem the immigrants have high hopes of having a better life in America, but when they get here they are treated like slaves. The mood is kind of depressed because just how the author writes his poem and what he says makes it seem sad. I feel as if the tone is one of disappointment because the way the author wrote the poem makes me feel as if though one of my parents is telling me this and disappointed in me. Also, I would like to credit Jessica Parra's blog post because it helped to understand the poem a lot more than I had after trying o explain the above.
