During the Socratic Seminar which was held in class, I heard a lot of quotes but there were 5 which really spoke to me.
Quotes
1. "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself "
This quote is saying that the only real way to feel at peace is to trust in yourself as it will align the way your soul and mind work together. This quote is significant because it is true nowadays nobody can help you feel at peace you need to learn to appreciate alone time to find your inner peace.
2. "What I must do is what concerns me, not what society wants."
The quote is saying to focus on yourself not on society or its thoughts because, in the end, it will only be you, not anybody else or society as they won't care for you. This quote is significant because nowadays this is the mentality that nobody has, only the rare few who actually appreciate everything that happens to them(entrepreneurs, sports stars, truly happy people, and so on), and by doing as society wants we do not focus on what we really want, causing us to pass on life-changing opportunities.
3. "To be great is to be misunderstood."
The quote says that being misunderstood only marks how great your views are, as were the ideas of all the greatest minds, such as Jesus, Aristotle, etc. The quote is significant in how we now consider those who are misunderstood as stupid and not as geniuses as some of them truly are(not Trump or Hillary though)
4. "We but half express ourselves, and are ashamed of that divine idea which each of us represents."
The quote is saying that we don't speak what we truly think due to being ashamed for thinking like that. The importance of this quote is that in this generation expressing yourself will be the cause of criticism by society, such as Lady Gaga who would wear 'weird' clothes and was criticized by many, although it was her way of expressing herself and she believes in doing exactly that, as she said in an interview I saw.
5. "For nonconformity, the world whips you with displeasure."
This quote is saying that if you are not what society wants you to be or think how they want you to, you are considered an outcast for being different from them. The significance of this quote is how true it is, because if you don't do as the rest do you are considered an outcast from the rest who are all the same. For example, if you don't dress a certain way, with expensive or known brands then you aren't considered cool and the rest of the people view you as unpopular or weird simply for having your own style, so I say F**k you if you judge people based on the way their style of dress is.
