"The Laughing Heart" analysis

"The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukowski is a poem which drips with meaning. I say this because the poem can be interpreted in different ways depending on the person reading it. Basically, the poem has a different meaning to each one of us. The poem may not seem like much and it's pretty easy to find out it's deeper meaning, but to me it is to have self-determination because there are ways to change your life. This can be seen in the way that Bukowski says to not let your life be "clubbed into dank submission" which refers to not let others put you down, but most importantly to put YOURSELF down with bad thoughts. The poem also refers to making the most of the time you have in this world, to not try to live a boring life and that you'll get opportunities to do so. At the same time he is saying to appreciate your life, that you are marvelous and that you have a bright future ahead of you. All in all, this poem is great to read when you feel unmotivated to continue in hard times.
